Portheras Cove Beach

Location:
West Cornwall.
Description:
Portheras Cove is a pleasant cove with a white sand beach. There are no facilities and parking is some distance from the beach.
Safety:
Signs warn of strong undercurrents, large breaking waves and unstable cliffs. Also sharp objects in the sand at all tides, advised to wear footwear. Do not use inflatables. See Beach Safety Guide.
Access:
Access is via the coast path from Pendeen Watch or a footpath from Lower Chypraze, the path is steep in places and final access to the beach is via steep steps.
Dogs:
Dogs allowed all year at Portheras Cove.
Directions:
Pendeen Watch is 1 mile from Pendeen which is 11 miles from St Ives. At St Ives take the B3306 and follow this west for about 10 miles to Pendeen. At Pendeen turn right for Pendeen Watch Lighthouse (where signposted to Pendeen Lighthouse). At the lighthouse walk the coast path east to Portheras Cove. Alternatively, on the B3306 about a mile before Pendeen turn right onto a lane (unsignposted) and drive to a small car park at a farm at Lower Chypraze, then take a footpath to Portheras Cove.

Park at Pendeen Watch. There is room for about 10-14 cars and there is also some road parking. There is also a small car park at Lower Chypraze.
