Cornwall Beach Guide

Carlyon Bay Beach

Description:
Carlyon Bay is a super sandy beach on the south Cornwall coast. Unfortunately Carlyon Bay has been blighted in recent years by development work which is ongoing, but the beach is still accessible. There are no facilities.
Safety:
Signs warn of unstable cliffs. See Beach Safety Guide.
Access:
There are steps from the car park to the beach. There is also a sloping road from the car park to the beach, but this is too steep for wheel chairs. On the beach there is a path through the development works to the beach front.
Dogs:
Dogs banned from Easter to October 1st. For the rest of the year, dogs should be kept on leads.
Directions:
Carlyon Bay is about 1-2 miles from St Austell. Approach St Austell on the A390 from east or west. Approaching from the east, just after St Blazey Gate, turn left at a roundabout signposted to Par and Fowey (A3082). Alternatively from the west, drive around St Austell on the A390 and follow the A390 out of St Austell towards St Blazey Gate, then turn right at the roundabout signposted to Fowey and Par (A3082). Continue on the A3082 until a right turning signposted to Carlyon Bay Hotel and Golf Course. Continue on this road, continue under the railway bridge, then at the next junction turn left and follow this road to the Carlyon Bay car park.
